Last Weekend

Diamond Vine ran a cracker in the Blue Square Sprint Series race last weekend. I thought he was my ride of the day and it was good to get some more points on the board. He’s entered again this weekend so we’ll be hoping he gets another good draw as I think he could land another one of these off his new handicap mark.

Kempton Wednesday 1st February

4.50pm
Sailing North showed some nice form on the all-weather last year, but he’s been a bit disappointing of late. The drop back to five furlongs should suit, but he’s best watched until he shows better  form.

5.20pm
I rode The Mongoose last time at Wolverhampton and he ran very well from a bad draw. He’s got a slightly better draw today and I think he’s got a massive each-way chance. David Evans’ horses continue to run well and he’d be my best ride of the day.

5.50pm
By Implication is a horse I don’t know a great deal about. It’s his first start for Ed de Giles and although he’s running off a very low mark, it will be difficult for him to win this.

6.50pm
I’ve won on Darnathean at Kempton before and he steps up to seven furlongs today. He hasn’t run since October, so he might need this and I actually think he’ll be better when dropped back to six.

Southwell Thursday 2nd February

1.30pm
Spic ‘n Span ran well last Friday, finishing fourth at Lingfield. He should improve for that and he loves it at Southwell. If he gets a decent start, he could be quite hard to peg back and has a solid each-way chance.

2.00pm
Echos Of Motivator ran well at Lingfield on Saturday, which was a back-to-form effort. He was second on his last visit to Southwell, so he enjoys the Fibresand. The worry is that the trip is just slightly on the short side, but he’s in good form and hopefully won’t be far away.

2.30pm
I’ve finished second on Samantana twice at Southwell in the past couple of months. She handles the track, but if Roedean takes her place she will be difficult to beat.

Wolverhampton Thursday 2nd February

4.50pm
I’m going to Wolverhampton for just the one ride and Meet Joe Black has a great draw in stall one. He’s a lazy horse, but I get on well with him and I think he’s my best chance of the day at what should be a decent each-way price.
